The Department of Physiotherapy is a wing of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences & basic sciences at SDUAHER offering a Bachelor of Physiotherapy program in the Kolar district. The BPT program started in the department of physiotherapy in the academic year 2016-17 and has grown steadily to what it is today. 40 students are admitted to the B.P.T course every year. The programs prepare the students for services across the continuum of care from acute medicine to chronic care; and from primary to tertiary care within health, education, and social services settings. The department is committed to teaching, clinical practice, and research. The primary focus of our work is in the area of assessment, treatment, and prevention of physical dysfunction, and in the promotion of health for people of all ages. We are proud of the innovation and excellence inculcated progressively in Physiotherapy education and research. We are one of the few teaching departments/colleges in the state and country to provide a choice-based credit system with tailor-made courses for students and practitioners where they are trained holistically and multi-dimensionally as competent professionals with human values.

The department of physiotherapy committed to serving the community who are all in need. The physiotherapy services are extended to the community level, beyond the campus through outreach activities. The geriatric population who are all residing in the old age home and NGO are treated with physiotherapy interventions with care to improve mobility, independence, and community engagement. The physiotherapy department also extended the services to the Kolar community for the special children who are physically challenged and resides in the NGO in and around Kolar.
Bachelor of Physiotherapy (B.P.T)
A 4 and half year (B.P.T) Bachelor of Physiotherapy course includes four years course period (eight semesters) and a minimum of six months of rotatory Internship. It is a multidisciplinary program focussing on core subjects like Biomechanics, Exercise Therapy, Electrotherapy, PT Cardio, Exercise Physiology, PT Ortho & Sports, PT Neuro, and Community Based Rehab. The program also focuses on a number of basic and clinical medical subjects like anatomy, physiology, pathology, microbiology, research, general medicine, general surgery, pharmacology, neurology, pediatrics, women’s health & community medicine that provide a foundation for understanding the bases for physiotherapy. This is a graduate-level course supported by classroom lectures, demonstrations, seminars, workshops, journal clubs, and clinical conferences. The program consists of 4 years of both theoretical and clinical work followed by six months of internship. The clinical internship is exclusively for clinical work at the parent institution.
Eligibility Criteria
• Candidates who have completed 17 years of age are eligible to apply.
• The candidate must have passed 10+2, A-Level, IB, American 12th Grade or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, English, and Biology individually.
• The candidate should secure a minimum of 45% marks together (aggregate) in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology for the general category.
• The minimum marks for the purpose of eligibility shall be forty percent (40% aggregate in PCB) in optional subjects in case of students belonging to SC/ST and OBC students from Karnataka or as decided by the Government of Karnataka. Provided further that, the student shall have studied and passed English as one of the subjects.
• The candidate should have passed both years (11th & 12th grade) in the higher secondary examination in the respective board wherever it applies.
DURATION OF THE COURSE:
The total duration of the course shall be Four and half years which includes four years course period (eight semesters) and a minimum of six months of rotatory Internship.
